Chapter Nine

Reid

When I woke in Seth’s bed, my misgivings about mixing work with pleasure were the first thing on my mind, but when I looked over to him sleeping peacefully, his beautiful face in gorgeous repose, those concerns didn’t matter. Seth and I were great together.

We had always been a fantastic team, but it hadn’t occurred to me because of the hierarchical nature of our relationship: boss and assistant. With both of us as equal founders in The Deeply, it was more apparent than ever how valuable Seth was in fulfilling everything we laid out in our manifesto last night.

On top of all that, my heart and body ached for him. How long could I deny my desires and keep working with him every day? It was impossible. He was stunningly gorgeous and effortlessly charming. No one could deny a man like Seth.

And he was just so humble. He had no idea how hot he was or how talented a writer he was.

Heather leaving me had shocked me into what I truly wanted in life. Like the old man at The Blind Lion had said, the universe had opened up the possibilities in life I was too afraid to take.

As he slept, I carefully laid my arm around him spooning him close to me. He snuggled into my arms easily without waking. With my nose nestled in the back of his neck, I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply. He smelled elemental and spring clean. I wanted to roll around in that smell all day.

Holding him like that, I could have fallen back asleep, but Seth gently stirred in my embrace.

“Good morning,” he murmured, rubbing my hand on his waist.

I kissed the back of his neck. “Good morning.”

He yawned and stretched slightly arching his back. His perfect ass cheeks rubbed gently on my cock arousing me. He turned over to face me. His green eyes were still drowsy with sleep. “How are you feeling this morning?”

He was asking about more than just my hangover. “I feel great about everything,” I assured him.

He tussled my hair. “No regrets?”

Touching my nose to his, I whispered, “No regrets.”

Seth eased into my arms, resting his head on my chest. “I’m so happy.”

My chin brushed against the top of his head. “I am too.”

A few mornings before, I’d been downtrodden and broken, but today, it was a brand-new day with someone I cared for in my arms. It struck me just then how much adversity could bring out your true self. I’d been going along with things out of comfort.

Passion for my work and my marriage had fizzled out long ago, but I just put one foot in front of the other just to get through the day. If Dixie and Heather hadn’t dropped me, I’d still be floundering in mediocrity without the fire in my belly that I felt now.

Seth was there to stand by my side as I ventured on a new journey, a whole lifestyle change. My feelings for him were undeniable and I didn’t care anymore about the consequences.
